must admit I was one of many skeptics expecting to see the GI Joe movie, but I want to go on the record saying that "it was a successfully entertaining film and I hope to see more and more installments of the popular childhood cartoon turned movie". The YO JOE!!!!!!! anthem can now be said with pride once again in my opinion. Turning out a masterpiece of a film from an 80's cartoon can be done no better than what director Stephen Sommers did. Usually Sommers' movies tend to have a cartoonish element with tons of action sequences and explosions, I.E.- The Mummy Franchise, and Van Helsing. This formula fit perfectly and helped GI Joe: Rise of Cobra succeed in ways I did not think possible.
First lets start with the ensemble that was put together perfectly I thought, Duke, Ripcord, Heavy Duty, Scarlett, Breaker, Gen. Hawk, and Snake Eyes, these are the Joe's. And the Cobra's Baroness, Zartan, Storm Shadow, Destro, and Cobra Commander. These actors and actresses are played by some of Hollywood's tops like Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller, Arnold Vosloo, Rachal Nichols, the list goes on.
The film is about a group of the best soldiers from all over the world assigned to a special team, which is put together to stop the best of the best villains in the world. Cobra, a new threat to the world is comprised of some of the most skillfully trained soldiers, scientist and villains across the world, who come together for one common purpose, POWER. The storyline also revolves around numerous flashbacks showing the audience the history of some of our characters in the film and how that history leads them to the lives they have now.
I enjoyed the film, I appreciated the plot, I loved the action, and I'm in anticipation of the sequels to come. So for all you fans who did not see this film in theaters this past summer, no fear it is soon to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray November 3, 2009. Until then YO JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
