Health Care Bill Passes

As reported by Fox News now, the Senate Finance Committee passed the Max Baucus bill for health care with a 14-9 vote. Everyone voted along party lines except for Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), who placed a yea vote. However, the process for passing this bill is not over. The House Bill and the Senate Bill must be merged and then must be passed through the US Senate. Many problems must be worked out between both bills. The Senate bill does not have a public option, while the House bill does. Insurance companies will continue to block this bill process because the bill states that health insurance companies cannot deny anyone coverage based upon pre-existing conditions. Their expenses will skyrocket and would eventually put them out of business. Also, people who do not have health insurance will be fined as much as $1,500 per year. Now, we will wait and see what happens.

If someone can't afford the insurance how could they afford $1500 for a fine. I know that it is really the insurance companies that are afraid of making the bucks they have up to now. I think they should just settle it all and all working people get medicare at that price and unemployed/disability people get the medicaid until they can work. Works for me. But what do I know. Thanks for the update. Jacki M SeiWell

You are welcome. This bill would put health insurance companies out of business. In the bill, new insurance companies will be given start-up money from the Federal government to eliminate the status quo.

But not if that same government is going to penalize people who will still not be able to afford health care after the bill passes.
