The unique food chain, Wegmans, had it's grand opening this week-end in Collegeville, Pennsylvania to raving mass reviews. The food store has been welcomed with open arms by the community, as it has helped revamp the area by providing over 600 new jobs.
As an attendee on opening day, I was amazed at the overwhelming numbers of people in attendance. It was a bit like trying to go to Disney Land, it was so crowded. There was a special employee whose job was to secure a grocery cart for the new shoppers coming in. The vast multitude of grocery carts were scarce, due to the incredible amount of shoppers.
I found it nearly impossible to get to any particular part of the store on purpose. I was left at the mercy of the multitude, moving me this way and that. I had heard rumor of a burrito bar, and being the huge lover of burritos that I am, I had great expectations of finding said bar and experimenting with whatever ingredients I may have found at my disposable. However, due to the plethora of shoppers, I never found this fabled burrito bar, and still have no idea as to its actual existence. Perhaps other more enlightened shoppers may be able to clarify this point for me. I am very eager to find it!
All in all, Wegmans is an incredibly exciting store to shop, having such exotic foods like pistachio ice cream, tofu and veggie frozen burritos, and an incredible cheese section that would satisfy any palette. The store is more like a miniature city, it is huge, and it contains food from all over the world in sections you could label, "little China", "little Italy", etc.
There is definitely something for everyone at Wegman's, and I am truly thrilled there is one close by for me to shop at and enjoy. However, I think I'll try shopping on a much less crowded day.
