If the rumor mill has any credibility then Rush Limbaugh may be in the market to purchase the St. Louis Rams , fulfilling a childhood dream of his. Of course like most things that the flamboyant flame thrower of the right is involved in, it will be frothed with controversy. It is what has made this overbearing wind bag so popular for the past 15 years. The "Shock Jock" of Conservative hate speech, annihilator of Liberalism and all around slayer of civility in this great nation. What more could the NFL owners' association ask for ?
Rush has been one of the most articulate, boisterous and intense defenders of capitalism in the world. His ability to coarsen any legitimate debate in the political arena has only intensified since Barrack Obama has come into office. While he was for the past eight years nothing more than a water bearer for the George W Bush administration. Why shouldn't we allow this perverted puss filled enigma to own, if only partially one of America's most prize possessions? He certainly has the personal portfolio to accommodate the immense costs associated with running a football franchise. I would like to think that he can call in enough favors from his DC constituency to make it a simplified transition. After all we should not stand in the way of Rush attaining one of his childhood dreams, that would be socialism.
Imagine how the format of his talk radio show would differ from it's present menu. He could fill us with hours of his self deprecating adventures of how he became the proud owner of a bunch of overpaid socialists whose weekly adventures on the grid iron was for the sole purpose of pleasing only him. Or how he would trade his muscle bound muses for another of higher quality. I love Capitalism, don't you? I suppose this purchase could be one sure fire way of being able to identify all the "Ditto heads" in St. Louis, which if you think about it, a well placed indelible hand stamp of the patrons, upon entering the stadium would forever more unmask those who find their daily fulfillment of hate speech once and for all. Sort of how Rush identifies people he doesn't want to associate with by the color of their skin. This purchase could be a real break though for Americans. Roger Goodell must be quaking in his shoes in advancement of the enclave of protesters that will take him to task should this become anything close to a reality. We as Americans must see to it that Rush finally has a chance to fulfill his long awaited dream. He has worked so hard over the years to attain his high prominence in our capitalist's society.
If only society didn't have those pesky rules of engagement. I am not speaking of the overbearing, government imposed rules but rather those that a free society imparts upon all of its citizenry. Common decency comes to mind. A rule that I would like to think Rushbo's parents instilled in him at a young age. I see no evidence of this rule being applied to the EIB's king of comedy. Another rule of engagement is to actually engage with people, lowly as we may be. It is hard to do from the broadcasting bunker that he places himself inside each day, Spouting racial, cultural and societal epitaphs in an effort of driving up the ratings and of course trying to permeate his brand of poison into the mainstream. I must admit he has been somewhat successful on that score as I am finding myself taking the time to put this opinion together. Rules are put in place for a reason. How we act, what we say, is how we are perceived by others. I perceive Rush Limbaugh to be a prime example of what is wrong with this great nation.
As a believer in the free markets and a hesitant supporter of Capitalism, I support Rush's dream and will not stand in the way of his obtaining said dream. As a consumer I shall exercise my option not to consume in any way, anything that the NFL brings to market. I will not purchase any game tickets, memorabilia, etc. I will actively seek to disrupt any attempt of this deal to go through. I shall email the NFL on a daily basis to let my voice be heard. I will make every attempt that is humanly possible to make my dream come true.
My dream has always been to be able to recognize, marginalize, rationalize and obliterate any person or group that would make any attempt to tear apart the very fabric of society that keeps people of all colors and nationalities together for at least six months of the year. Courage of my convictions is all the power I need.
My father and mother had always taught me that "words matter". They also taught me that you judge a man by his actions and not the color of his skin. These life lessons have served me well over these past fifty-two years. It has been my "MORAL COMPASS" as I have interacted with folks from across this great land and I thank my mom and dad for their patience and tolerance in my teen years when I was forgetful and sometimes perceived to be hateful in my use of language to the determent of others. I have passed these simple phrases onto my three sons who thankfully applied them not only to their daily lives but more importantly when adversity of their teenage years would have forgiven them if they chose to set them aside given the circumstances.
Mr Limbaugh makes his living by grouping words together in an artful way that is astonishing to anyone outside of the Ditto head bubble. I have seen several online articles that site his brief appearance on ESPN as he made some disparaging remarks about Donavon McNabb and the fans of football. While I too found them distasteful it does not come close to comparing what this simpleton does on a daily basis. His words of which there are many, (considering his lively hood) that pretty much encapsulate the amount of disdain that people of all colors, religious background or political affiliation have for this marshmallow of a man. I hope he reaps all that is due him by encountering the wrath of a civil society.
There is one positive that could come from this debacle. I am a lifelong Eagles fan and a Democrat, my brother in law is a life long St. Louis fan and a Republican (old fashioned, likable type) I am fighting the urge to bite my tongue regarding this matter but my dad's voice is reverberating in my head.
