After iPod and iPhone, apple is now setting its eyes on video. The California-based company recently received a patent on a head-mounted laser video display. The crux of these glasses will lie in separating the laser engine from the headgear, unlike the previous head mounted displays which had them together. They plan to stow the engine in a separate unit by itself, connected to the frames via fibre optic cable. Such ‘iGlasses’ (as the rumours name it) setup would allow a more immersive television, gaming or conferencing experience when using, say, an iPhone.
It’s not clear, however, whether the company will ever turn this officially designated innovation into a product.
Especially, since history shows that many of the patents from Apple’s stream are never heard of again. And currently, the company seems to be pretty obsessed with the forthcoming tablet product. So looks like we might not be able to make a trip to the Apple store to buy the cool iGlasses anytime soon. Sad, eh?
