Obama Goes Head-to-Head with Gay Community

Washington : DC : USA | about 1 month ago
Views: 1,524

As we all know President Barack Obama made countless promises to the American people during his election campaign and now its time to cash them in according to the gay rights community. Tomorrow marks the start of the gay rights rally and on the eve of this event Obama will address all the concerns of the gay community at the HRC dinner. Obama perhaps wasn't planning on dealing with these issues so soon, but gays and lesbians alike seem to be growing increasingly impatient with waiting for something to be done as promised by the president.

Some of the most concerning issues that need to be addressed is the hate crimes protection, "don't ask, don't tell" - a policy banning homosexuals from serving openly in the military and gay marriage among numerous other issues. The gay community if it only accomplishes one thing during its rally and dinner tonight with the president, it hopes that some bills will begin being signed into action that will actually have a positive effect on the gay community.

Tonight's dinner and tomorrows rally will definitely be a test for President Obama and his ability to persuade the gay community that he is actively working towards their hopes and dreams. It is important to note that he has done numerous positive things for gays and lesbians such as lifting the HIV traveling ban and appointing openly gay people to high-level positions, however will this be enough to satisfy the appetites of those in attendance? Absolutely not, only time will tell what if anything will be done to appease the gay community and God only knows this will not be an easy task.

This should be put on the SNL accomplishment/to-do list.

Accomplished? Nope.

I think the gay community has waited long enough to be treated as equal American citizens. If we were talking about a race or gender-based minority, or the US saying that people with a certain disability couldn't have equal rights, there would be hell to pay. So yeah, he needs to step up, they voted for him too.
