Many Americans have been deeply divided by the loss of the Olympic bid for Chicago. Many say those who were in the relieved to happy groups are un-American, but I beg to differ. As a resident of Illinois, I, for one, can say that the state of Illinois was unfit to host the Olympics. We are experiencing a very difficult budget crisis, the likes of which are not likely to be over soon. The state is 3 billion behind in bills (http://cbs2chicago.com/politics/comptro
All of that aside, as someone who believes in global cooperation, I fully endorse Rio. No South American city has ever had the honor of hosting the Olympics, whereas America has already hosted it 7 times. Is it so wrong for Americans to accept the fact that we are economically unfit to have this honor bestowed on us, and at the same time be happy for a city whose chance is monumental to the people of that nation? There is nothing wrong with saying "We dont need it, give it to someone who does"
