U2 want to follow in the footsteps of their idols The Beatles and release a 'Rock Band' video game.

According to NME, Bass player Adam Clayton has revealed he and his bandmates had talks with the makers of the popular video game series last year but initial discussions broke down.

He said: "We definitely would like to be in there. But we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted. That could change.
"I love the idea that's where people are getting music and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out."

Clayton said the group are reconsidering their initial decision after witnessing the painstaking detail and authenticity of the recently released 'Beatles: Rock Band' title.

He added: "What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didn't want to be caricatured."

'The Beatles: Rock Band' was made with the approval and input of living band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr plus the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison respectively.

Ono, 76, claimed the game merges music and art to create amazing "healing vibrations".

She said: "I think game is the second revolution. In the beginning the band made a splash with their music; with the video game we're going to create a planet of music and art."

U2 is one of the biggest rock bands in the world, so it would be very appropriate for them to headline a game that celebrates the art of rock music. The Beatles version generated a great response, and although The Beatles are obviously bigger, I'm sure there's a market for U2 in the gaming world as well.
