Violence is normally associated with men but, the recent killing of 18 policemen in an ambush in Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border was planned and executed by women naxalites. Their leader is a 40-year old who is known as Tarakka. She is the wife of the local leader and in-charge of the Maharashtra region. She resorted to mind games by hurling abuses at the policemen which she transmitted using stolen walkie-talkie sets of the police. The fight against the naxalites is testing the patience of the Home Minister P Chidambaram – with the rebels resorting to guerilla tactics, the need of the hour is to call in the army because they are better equipped and experienced in ambush and guerilla warfare. It would have to be a joint action by the central and state machinery.
