Barack NoBama

What do outraged Republicans, cheering celebratory Democrats, media frenetic energy, and $1.4 million dollars in Peace Prize money have in common? Barack Obama! Yes, that's right folks! We are the proud nation of the first black president, we also boast to have the first First Lady that was from ancestral slaves, and now we are the first nation in 90 years to having a sitting president who takes the most prestigious prize of them all!

Truly, this is a day for many to gasp and scratch their heads. Over 200 people or organizations applied for this coveted award, which was narrowed down to wide variety of candidates besides Obama: Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a Colombian senator, a Chinese dissident and an Afghan woman's rights activist, among others.

The identity of the person who nominated Obama will not be made public unless that person steps forward. Chances are, and I am willing to bet, that this person will be wise and not make him/herself known.

No matter where you swing, right or left, this announcement has sent shock all over the globe. Obama hasn't even been in office for a year, wasn't well known even two years ago, and has accomplished very little in political career thus far.

Many more powerful people with arguably more talent have been snubbed from getting the Prize. Ghandi was one of those that was passed over. Eleanor Roosevelt, surprisingly, was also cut short of her Nobel dream.

The world reaction has been most favorable, however the national opinion has not. No matter if you like Obama or not, and I obviously don't, it would be childish and diminutive to downplay Obama and not be happy for him. If only I could be the fly on the wall in the White House right now!

Sound off in the comments section below about how you feel about this award being given to Obama!

Some wonder if this is an affirmative action ploy. Others will likely accuse those who question Obama's qualifications for the Prize as being racist. Either way, I surmise there will be much ado in the media as well as All Voices about this announcement for weeks to come. (come on CaliforniaMike, we know you are itching to post a 5,000 viewer article on All Voices! Oh wait.....I see you already have...and two articles about the same subject?! Come on CaliforniaMike! Can't you make your point in just one article? You're a talented writer, but don't be a glory hog! This particular subject is going to be like turkey three weeks after Thanksgiving. Everyone will be tired of it.). So, step aside Michael Jackson, another controversial celebrity-NoBama- has stolen your post-postmortem limelight!
