US President Barack Obama deserves to be congratulated on being conferred the Nobel Prize for Peace for 2009 – he was selected from among 205 likely candidates which speaks volumes by itself. The award is in recognition of his continuous efforts to bring about lasting peace in the world and for encouraging nuclear disarmament. He created history when he became the first non white President of the US and had been criticized for many of his decisions but, he continues to impress the world with his approach. He is probably the youngest recipient of the award and is one of three sitting US Presidents who had been thus honored – the previous Presidents were Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

Horray for President Obama! Horray for America! What a gift, as Obama says, "is truly humbling and serves as a call to action."
As an American, I am honored and proud at President Obama's achievements on the global spectrum. He deserves this.

The London bankers who also own and run America's own Federal Reserve pay out the prize for this award. And the shock of the international community giving this political prize to a less than one year term president of a country now engaged in a war in order to further secure Israel's future, a country founded not on religious liberty at all, but as a zionist state, speaks volumes of just why this occurred at this particular time.

Since Obama's approval ratings with that continuing "unconstitutional" war in our intended and legal form of government is getting greater and greater with each passing month.

What a sham. And the political maneuvering and agenda behind it crystal clear.

Nobel Peace Prize Nominees 2009 List: Not Available till 2059

Due to the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, lists of nominations are held for 50 years, so the official list of the Nobel Peace Prize Nominees for 2009 will not be available until at least 2059.

In 2009 there were 205 names submitted for the Nobel Peace Prize; 33 of them were organizations. This was the highest number of nominations in the history of the prize.

People are welcome to explore the Nominations Database from 1901 to 1956 (not up to 1959 though), but we will not know the full list of 2009's nominations until about 50 years from now.

A five member Nobel Committee, whose members are chosen by the Norwegian parliament, examines the nominations and creates a shortlist of 5-20 candidates. After further examination of the candidates by a group of academics who are the Nobel Institute's permanent advisers, the committee selects the final winner.[2]

There have been some names released of the 2009 nominees however.

This included Colombia Senator Piedad Cordoba, Sima Samar, Chinese dissident Hu Jia, and Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Morgan Tsvangirai.

Other nominees are believed to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy, Ingrid Betancourt, the Cluster Munitions Coalition, Zivko Popovski-Cvetin, SOS-Kinderedorf International, Greg Mortenson, Thich Quang Do and Pete Seeger.

There is no official list however at this time.

anyone see someone on this list who is more deserving? i cast my vote for sima samar as she has actually accomplished something

For just winning the US Presidency with some black blood in him is a monumental achievement. I am glad that he won.
Reply By lecia lecia | about 1 month ago
what makes it so monumental?

That he was even voted President in a country in which racism prevalently exists.
Reply By lecia lecia | about 1 month ago
if racism is so prevalent then how the hell did he get elected?

lecia - thanks for throwing more light on the subject ... the award has raised many eyebrows as well questions ... but, we have to accept the decision ... as one critic said ... 'this award puts a great responsibility on barack obama and he would have to live upto the expectations of the world ...'

i may have to accept it but that doesn't mean i have to like it

I like to know, of course quite humbly, how PEACE is being and has so long been defined by the honorable members of the Nobel Committee. Will anyone throw some light, please?
