Home Minister P Chidambaram has to take steps to stop the growing menace of Maoists. They keep targeting policemen and, in the latest attack, 17 policemen have been killed in Gadchiroli district on the border of Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh. Reports indicate that a police informer of a village was beheaded in a case similar to that of the police officer Francis Indwar in Ranchi. These Maoists have been exploited by political parties to contain the opposition in Bengal and, even the fiery TMC leader Mamata Banerjee had taken their support to launch offensive against the CPM Government on various issues. These Mao rebels hide in the forests bordering the states of Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra and Maharashtra and are adept at blowing up roads and ambushing the police vehicles and personnel.
