Hooking up, has it replaced dating?

Hooking up started out as a ritual among high school and college students who wanted to have sex but didn’t want the responsibilities that were taught to come along with it. Luckily there has been a major shift in the culture over the last few decades. Hooking up is now a trend among people of all ages who want to delay the modern responsibilities of marriage and child rearing and replace it with consensual, no worry, good healthy sex.

People during their more sexually active periods in life aren’t necessarily looking for anything long term. Many prefer a sexual encounter with no strings attached. Most people have lives; school, work, a schedule that often does not leave a lot of time for a relationship, yet sex is always a priority, as it should be. For many it seems far easier to have a casual sexual encounter, or a hookup rather then focus on the demands a relationship entails. Hooking up started before the Internet and social networks, but the technology is extending the lifestyle way beyond the campus, and work area.

So is hooking up considered the new way of dating? Probably not, there are plenty people out there who are still searching for that special someone, but hooking up is definitely a modern and guilt free way of indulging without any expectations. I would have to say the phrase; “don’t knock it until you try it” would definitely apply here.
