We have all grown up undoubtedly and heard the tall tales of the great bank robber, Jesse James and magician Harry Houdini. Both of these men were infamous for their impeccable talents and skills, especially when it came to making themselves disappear from audiences or the police. However, it seems that both of these masterminds have been reincarnated and taken the shape of the mastermind 18 year-old criminal Colton Harris-Moore, aka the "Barefoot Burglar'.
Colton Harris-Moore has had a troubled past and numerous run-ins with the law. It all started when he was 12 years-old and he was caught breaking into the local school. Before the age of 15 police records showed that Colton had amounted 9 arrests for burglaries and break-ins around Washington County. Colton tried to acclimate to the normal lifestyle of going to school, doing homework and hanging out with friends, however it just wasn't his style. He dropped out of high school and embarked on the free, rebellious lifestyle that currently has police all around Washington frantically looking for him.
Colton has spent the last several years burglarizing the homes of Camano Island, breaking in and taking credit card numbers and then charging them with large sums of money for electronics such as video games, GPS systems, digital cameras, etc. However, these burglaries didn't seem to give Colton the rush or excitement he clearly craved, which has led him to stealing small, private planes. Since November, three planes have been stolen and flown off only to be found several hours later abandoned in the middle of fields in Washington.
Police and experts now believe that he is responsible for these acts and think that he may have self-taught himself to fly these planes, which indicates why the landings were less than textbook. Police have had an extremely hard time finding Colton because he either squats in unoccupied homes, or sleeps in trees or the woods to avoid contact with people who may recognize his face. The police have anointed him as the 'Barefoot Burglary' since he prefers to prowl the streets shoeless.
Police have borrowed a heat-sensing helicopter from Homeland Security in attempt to find Colton while he sleeps in the woods at night, however they haven't had any sort of success. One thing is for certain as this amazing and interesting journey continues for Colton. Since he lives his life in the fast-lane; the only chance police have of catching this cunning mastermind is to act or live the life that Colton does on a daily basis. Good luck Colton, fly Colt fly!
