One of the biggest disadvantages of a trip whose steps would be the steps of several reports is that, for the most part of the time, you are 100% in alert, carefully watching around, in search of possible "subjects". It is the reason why, for example, a happy hour offer at a bar is more than a simple offer in for each stop of your travel you might spend more time doing detailed documentation. Of course, in the case you want your reports to be worthy to reading. You should always keep into mind the fact that, indeed, you are always on professional duties. At the beginning, it could be painful, as your wish - you are or not full aware of - is to relax and have some free time. But, sooner or later, everything will be an act-reflex: when you will observe something which could be change into a possible "article subject", you simply take your notebook and start reading. It is a kind of addiction, indeed, and, if you are not travelling alone, it could not be always a very pleasant attitude for your trip partner. But, nothing is fully perfect and, if you are fully aware what your passion is, you should never give up. At least, I will never do.
But, I mentioned at the previous paragraph a key-word: notebook. A Moleskine or banal piece of paper, you should try as much as possible to record what do you see, at least the personal impressions, as, thanks to the Internet, you could find nowadays everything you are interested in - historical and statistical data, for example - on the web. But, what do you see with your own eyes it is extremely important in giving the special stance of your writing. Another helpful tool are the various presentation leaflets, sending another amount of information you could use in creating your report.
An added testimony is the camera's eye. The modern digital cameras allow to save the data the picture was taken. For a shorter trip, you could easily remember what the place was. For a longer one, across various towns and places, a writing record is useful, for setting back the correct descriptions. If you already take a laptop with you, you could download the camera any time you consider necessary, with the information about places and people. Also, if enough time, you could write on the spot, as a diary of your trip, making easier a further recollection and reorganisation of your materials.
As already presented, travel writing looks as a not extremely wonderful experience. Always on alert, writing, registering, taking pictures. A real mobile office, working in any place of the world. Looks exhausting? It's up to you. As long as writing is already an essential part of your life, complaining about writing too much could be as complaining about drinking water or eating three times the day. It is a natural necessity.
