The 4th session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage held at the beginning of October, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, added 12 new elements on the List of Intangible Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. On the same occasion, the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was expanded with another 76 inscriptions.
On the Safeguarding list, were took into consideration traditions submitted by eight countries. Among the new entries, we'll mention: a ritual festival from Belarus, traditional design and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges and traditional textiles as the Qiang New Year Festival in China, oral traditions in Corsica, Mongolian traditional folk dance, music and epic and a singing tradition from Viet Nam. Through this inscription, the states concerned will apply the steps required but will equally be able to apply for the necessary funding.
The most famous inscription on the Representative list is the tango, followed by Aubusson tapestry, the Indonesian batik, the Romanian traditional song Doina, the Gagaku traditional performing arts in Japan, and the Chinese seal graving, the Tibetan opera, paper cut traditions from China.
