Travel writing, the challenges

I am a dedicated travelled for years. Since early childhood, I do not remember any year of my live without seeing a new place or a new country. Since I was able to do my own trip plan, the diversity of destinations increased, as the frequency. Depending of the time at my disposal, I am carefully planning the targets and places to see, but also trying to get as much as possible social contact with the local people: watching them, travelling as much as possible by train or bus - also for better seeing the places - trying to talk with people or make new friends. Because, I consider travelling as a part of not only checking some location of the big world map, but also for being enriched at the end of the day: a new foreign word, a local history. Shortly put: it is a way, very practical and direct, to cultural and personal knowledge.

It is why, when I started to contribute with reports to this site, I was thinking what it is best to share from my experiences: general consideration about the culture and history of the country I am visiting, or better, to focus on details, as small parts of the city and personal experiences. As I am not a writer of standard travel books and, as well, travel guides are not playing the biggest role in my trips, as in the waste majority of cases, I am trying more to head the street near the recommended place in the book, not a five star location but, for me, more important and with lots of things to be discovered, I took the decision to try to feature personal travel experiences. Because, all the places around are part of the history and are eager to tell their history, made by individuals and their histories.
