Another dimension of time

September 26, at Berliner Philarmoniker, it was offered the opportunity of seizing another notion of time. One measured by the sound of the string. Not a usual one, because it is about Kronos Quartet. Almost three hours, and two encore. Thinking about music in musical category, not an easy to explain approach, but pretty easy to understand when you are in the middle of such an amazing performance. Longer or shorter pieces, melting together in the delicate and deep framework of the strings' sound. Four different musical scores, with different musical notes, but still one note, in between the short distance from the moment one note is uttered by an instrument until it is getting together with the other three, for being part of the same narrative. And, in fact, it is the recipe for a good concert. The difference in this case was made by the force of the interpretation and the creation of a different and autonomous space having its own listening rules, the one of a special sound of the music, listened by the each individual member of the audience, all of them part of the same existential experiment.

Kronos Quartet—David Harrington, John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (viola) and Jeffrey Zeigler (cello)—was created in Seattle in 1973. The group is well known for the thousands of concerts worldwide, individually or together with other musicians. Among others, it is laureate of the Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and "Musicians of the Year" (2003) from Musical America.
