Bush is known as the Texecutioner However, Governor Perry knowingly hanging an innocent man and now trying to cover it up dwarfs even the Texecutioner!

Governor Perry of Texas first to knowingly execute an innocent man Perry replaces panel members who wanted an investigation!

Governor Perry of Texas appears to be upholding the highest standards of Bush the Texecutioner! I heard about this and researched multiple stories on it! Perry executed the man based on unproven information and when the truth came out and an investigation was called for Perry dismissed the entire team saying their time was up. Gee it had nothing to do with the fact that they knew the fire was an accident not arson and Perry knowingly hung an innocent man?

Perry abruptly removed three members of the Texas Forensic Science Commission -- including the commission's chairman just two days before they were to meet to review the evidence that Cameron Todd Willingham was innocent. The new chairman a prosecutor not a Defender who has now replaced a defense attorney on the commission canceled the hearing for the time being. Gee what a coincidence and in time to cover up before a reelection campaign!

Perry, who maintains that Willingham was guilty, defended the move by saying that their terms were up, so we replaced them. Nevertheless he said that the abruptness of their dismissal appears a bit suspicious. No you think? Then let them do this first unless you know you're guilty! The innocence project is right saying that it looks an awful lot like a governor who's interfering with a science commission because the science demonstrated that we've executed an innocent person. There was no arson it was an accidental fire!

* In closing I am an eye for an eye guy but especially in an instance like execution you have to "know" not think you know. The death penalty should only be used in extreme cases and this was not one of them. Look at the links and there are many more. It is obvious Perry knowingly executed an innocent man. Now the Governor fires the independent Chairman and two other members of this Commission right before they were going to prove he knowingly executed an innocent man. Again The innocence project is right saying It's like Nixon firing Archibald Cox to avoid turning over the Watergate tapes. We can not let him get away with this.

An investigation should be launched regardless and this Governor impeached, and put on trial for murder.

That is very tragic this man loses his family in an accidental fire, and then gets put to death for it. They really need to be more careful when it comes to the death penalty. I think it should only apply to mass murders who they know for sure committed multiple crimes. If someone gets life in prison at least their case can still be looked at, once someone is dead, they are dead.

    Hi RutledgeMediaGroup
I agree! There should be an immediate investigation. I refuse to believe he can just dismiss the board and that is it. Knowingly killing an innocent man can not be undone but Perry at the very least should be put in his shoes! That was horrible!

    Hi Ladym
It was tragic! Putting someone to death should only be in extreme cases and you must know not think you know as to guilt. You read it. It is obvious what happened and Perry better not get away with it!

James, how tragic. Thanks for this report and I hope you will do a follow up if there is an investigation and keep us informed. Thanks for the report. This kind of abuse of the law should be prosecuted to the fullest.

I'm not against the death penalty. But like you say, it should be reserved for the worst criminals like pedophiles, serial killers, and rapists who torture and murder their victims. And it should be a clear case without doubt. We have DNA technology that is improving more every year to help with decisive proof.

I didn't think Texas could get any worse at governor after George W. I guess I was wrong. Actually, this story is shocking because they usually end up killing innocent minorities all of the time on death row.

No wonder Rick Perry wanted Texas to secede...he could make up new laws about the state having the right to kill innocent people.

Man up, Gov. Perry, and resign. You are in dereliction of duty if you knowingly OK'd the execution of an innocent man.

I'm opposed to the death penalty -- pro-life across the board -- so obviously I think this was appalling.

My comment on a slightly different part of the story is that I don't like to see cute nicknames given to a***oles, so to me Bush isn't the Texecutioner. He's just the ultimate beneficiary of affirmative action.

He should of not gotten the death penalty. What they should of done was put him in jail til they were able to have done a further investigation on the case. It looks like Perry doesn't care about fellow Americans and did what he did just to get the case over with and done.

Hi Sharon! I agree 100%, my first thought when learning of this was why did they put him too death so quickly? And they did not not know unequivocally? Those stays go on for 20 or 30 years what was the hurry? This has definitely a travesty and an injustice, something has got to be done and I will stay with this!

Another example of why the death penalty is such a bad idea; if you're wrong there;s no gong back and things can get pretty hairy if that's the case. Better to have decent prisons and treat criminals like humans; after all, a society can be judged by the state of its prisons.

Next Perry will claim to have been directed by Supply Side Jesus. A big part of the problem is that so many politicians get their start as prosecutors. Thus, convictions in high profile cases can launch political careers, while acquittals can nip political careers in the bud. The temptation to illegally manipulate the outcome is huge. That's why that, of the people released from death row because their conviction was overturned, the vast majority are found to have been convicted because of prosecutorial misconduct. That amounts to about one in four death penalty convictions. I can't help but wonder how many more innocent people are murdered by the state. Once the prisoner is dead, investigation usually stops. Perry and the GOP may think it's OK to kill innocents to be sure to get the guilty. I do not. Until we get a justice system that's 100% foolproof, we should murder no more. Since such a system has never existed, isn't it time to join the rest of the civilized world in outlawing this barbaric practice?

Death means never having to admit we screwed up!

Tom I refuse to believe you can knowingly hang an innocent man and there are no repercussions. Man that fire was in 2004 and they killed him already. Why so fast? You know this is a cover up, this can not just be the end of this. You have to know not think you know in a case like this!
