No Afghanistan Withdrawal, Obama Tells Lawmakers

President Obama won’t commit to sending more troops to Afghanistan, but neither will he withdraw any, he told congressional leaders in a White House meeting today that included a sharp exchange between the president and Republican Sen. John McCain. Obama wanted to “dispense with the straw man argument that this is about either doubling down or leaving Afghanistan,” sources tell the New York Times.

With the Republicans in the 30-lawmaker contingent urging an immediate surge, “time is not on our side,” McCain said, adding, “This should not be a leisurely process.” Obama replied: “John, I can assure you this won’t be leisurely. No one feels more urgency to get this right than I do.”

well afghanistan isn't vietnam... thats one of the biggest mistakes you can make, to fight the last war.
Reply By firesisle firesisle | about 1 month ago
Afghaistan could well become Vietnam; it fits the mold. Vietnam was caused by an administration which refused to leave, but also refused to pursue the war to a conclusion. Obama is doing the same; he won't leave because he feels it wouldn't be politically expedient, but won't send in more troops for the same reason, hence there will be more body bags to fill and no resolution...

but if he pulls out his troops it wont end war, it will involve even more lives then just a few soldiers. At this point it does not matter if it is an american, afghani or pakistani soldier, i am just talking about human lives!!
