U.S. Army General Petraeus speaks about Iraq and Afghanistan at the ...

At least five bodies out of eight deployed soldiers in Afghanistan return home in coffins after an attack. The military said this is the largest number of U.S. soldiers killed in a single attack in more than a year.

Last Saturday, Taliban militants attacked both American and Afghan troops in the province of Nuristan, Afghanistan. Opening fire from multiple locations with rockets, mortar and other heavy-cailber machine guns killed the troops. At least eight American soldiers and two members of Afghan security forces were killed on the said attack.

Coverage of such troop's return can only be done with the permission of family members, this is as per Obama's new policy instituted this year. This is also to respect the family's decision.

The said bodies were returned home at the Dover Air Force in Delaware.

Also, in the said attack, 13 other members of the Afghan security forces were kidnapped, according to provincial deputy governor Haji Abdul Halim. The Afghan security forces are now hunting down the attackers for possible resue of the captured forces.

My condolences to the family of the following killed soldiers; Sgt. Joshua J. Kirk of South Portland, Maine; Spc. Stephen L. Mace of Lovettsville, Virginia; Pfc. Kevin C. Thomson of Reno, Nevada; Spc. Michael P. Scusa of Villas, New Jersey and Spc. Christopher T. Griffin of Kincheloe, Michigan.

I also feel sorry for the victims' families. We must continue bringing attention to this war. We must not let the military dictate to the president what to do. We surge they run away. We pull back they surge.

You're right about that robert, this must be ended..

I also am sorry the dead and wounded and kidnapped. It sounds like dien bien phu on a small scale. Thanks heavens we had the resources to come to their aid. Why are they there at all? I have no idea. I fear pride could be a factor. Price is a liability.

These poor guys are going to continue to die unless the govt. comes up with a solid strategy to establish a serious and sustainable governance effort in afghanistan. I feel bad for their families and for these poor guys who are sent to die for the wrong reasons and through bad strategy and tactics.

Changez...My feelings are the same as yours. This mess has to be concluded soon. I just heard a "high White house official" say that the president is rethinking our mission in Afghanistan! We've been there for 8 years and he's rethinking our mission? Incredible.

my condolences to their families, i hope they have all the strength they need to go through this, also i am sure these deaths only will increase the hatred in their families hearts towards muslims which are not the real terrorists as depicted!!

This is a very good article, spike-breaker. Lots of food for thought. I hope it will inspire all your readers to give some serious consideration as to what exactly the U.S. is trying to do in Afghanistan. The sight of the flag-draped caskets is very moving.
