Having already turned an encyclopedia into a Conservapedia, the folks at Conservapedia are now shifting their view to the Bible. Recently, the news of Conservapedia’s Bible Project made it to the blogosphere, and in response to the negative pushback to the idea, Conservapedia and conservative faux newsers remind people of the Green Bible that was released a little while ago.
They claim it is liberal bias to attack the Conservapedia project, yet praise the Green Bible.
“The Green Bible is an English version of the New Revised Standard Version Bible with a focus on environmental issues and teachings. It was originally published by Harper Bibles on October 7, 2008. It is a study Bible featuring essays by N.T. Wright, Barbara Brown Taylor, Brian McLaren, Matthew Sleeth, Pope John Paul II, and Wendell Berry.” Wikipedia.
What the Green Bible did, according to Conservapedia, was to produce a Bible “from recycled paper, processed soy ink, and the words of nature - not Christ - in green.”
In that statement they have practically said that being made from recycled paper, processed soy ink and having the environmentally favorable statement be in green, is the same as changing words in the Bible.
At the same time saying that the words in green are not Jesus’s words, but the words of nature.
The Green Bible did not change any words in the New Revised Standard, the folks at Conservapedia are of course lying. They merely used green ink to have environmentally friendly passages be highlighted.
This “highlighting” idea was based off of the Red Letter versions of the Bible, where the words spoken by Jesus were printed in red letters. This became very popular in the U.S. and for the readers for the King James Version because it does not use quotation marks.
Not only is there an essay from Pope John Paul II in the Green Bible, but also an essay from conservative theologian N.T. Wright. Therefore the Green Bible is a bit more credible and politically neutral.
Most criticisms of the Green Bible accused it of being a marketing ploy, an attempt by Harper Collins, the publisher of the Green Bible, to capitalize on the Green movement.
Conservapedia is still continuing to change the Bible to suit their political ideology and still blaming liberal bias, on their path to hell.
