Forbes magazine named the 400 richest Americans in the world. Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates remains on top. Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway is top two. Oracle Corp. founder Lawrence Ellison is number three. Ellison remained strong amidst adversity as he was not too affected negatively. The descendants of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton are back on the list getting spots four to seven. The US recession wrecked the profits of the wealthiest Americans. An estimated $300 billion was lost due to the economic crisis. Declining capital and real estate markets were huge dilemmas. Matthew Miller, editor of the Forbes list, mentioned that it was a “bloodbath” for the American elite. The net worth combined declined by 19%, from $1.57 trillion to $1.27 trillion.
