This week, the Philadelphia Phillies will begin their defense of their Major League Baseball championship. This may sound "different." Many people will say that the Phillies will be defending their "World" championship. Not me.
I have been a baseball fan for 38 years. However, I disagree with the fact that Major League Baseball calls its championship "The World Series." There are 30 teams in the major leagues and all but one is located in the United States. So how can the championship round honestly be called the WORLD Series?
There are some great teams in countries like Japan and the Dominican Republic, not to mention Cuba. Let's get a genuine World Series going. Let's take the best Major League Baseball team and pit it against thebest team fromanother country in a 4 out of 7 game series.
The World Baseball Classic is a more legitimate indicator of the best team in the world. Let's make the "World" Series more meaningful. But for now, good luck to the eight teams who will vie for this year's Major League Baseball championship.
