The Palestinians in this video were on their way to worship. This is what the Israeli occupation looks like on a good day, when it's on its best behavior, while Israeli B'Tselem peace activists are on the scene with their video cameras running.

They herd the old women like they were cattle. The men and boys they haul off to God knows where for God knows what purposes and for God knows how long. And that's on a good day. When the cameras aren't around, the so-called Israel Defense Force uses Palestinian children for target practice. The most common cause of death among children in the illegally Occupied Palestinian Territories is gunshot wound. American tax dollars fund this horror. Every day. The U.S. government provides generous diplomatic, military, and economic support for any and all of Israel's black letter law war crimes and crimes against humanity. Every day.

The occupation, the ethnic cleansing, the brutal repression, the women who die in childbirth at Israeli checkpoints, the cancer patients who can't get to the hospital, the school children who are killed on their way to school, all part and parcel of Israel's ruthless subjugation of the Palestinian people, all illegal. The whole world knows. The whole world sees it. While Americans, those whose homes have not yet been foreclosed, those who still have jobs, wonder why "they" hate us.

Michael Gillespie writes regularly for the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, the nation's oldest and most widely read and respected journal focusing on the politics and culture of Middle East and U.S. foreign policy in the region, and for The Independent Monitor, the national newspaper of Arab Americans. He lives and works in Iowa. This short article is reposted by Billie Greenwood with his permission.

Information accompanying the YouTube video:

This piece of video was filmed at the Qalandiya Israeli military checkpoint directly before the entrance of a small ghetto where the so-called Palestinian Authority has their headquarters, where the house and the office of the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas are located.

Qalandiya is a Palestinian refugee camp located to the north of the city of Jerusalem, and about 1 Km south of the city of Ramallah.

From this piece of video which was filmed at the Qalandiya check point, portions which show people collapsing unconscious were edited (censored), for "unknown reasons" the "unknown reasons" likely being that the video was filmed by Israelis worried about the reputation of Israel.

Real chaos. For me it was very painful to watch. I do not know how Palestinians manage to survive day to day under such horrid conditions. The Israelis are getting away with oppressing the Palestinians only because the Americans support them no matter what they do. However, people around the world have been watching with dismay, ever since they watched the Gaza War atrocities, and with increasing frustration how Israel treats Palestinians at "security gates" and police barricades. The result can been seen around the world: the "Boycott Israel" movement is gaining momentum. In Norway, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland, anti-Israel sentiment is growing. In another two years, Israel will have very few nations friendly towards it. Of course, President Obama is strongly pro-Israel even though he pretends to be an unbiased arbiter of peace. How Obama's administration pressured Abbas to drop his support for the Goldstone report is now a major story.

Atrocities. You must be living in a planet other then ours. Is it a bit chaotic absolutely. But is anyone being killed, beaten, etc. sorry but no. You all want to hate the Jews/Israel it is your right. But your hatred and heart felt desire to destroy Israel is a fantasy. Get over yourselves. There are so few security gates today in the West Bank that the free flow of Palestinians across the entire West Bank is possible. Since Israel put up these security "gates" there has been NO terror attacks within the country. Sorry folks but we value life all life. Better a little discomfort and no bombings.

Great report BE. You certainly have gumption and perspective to put that up . I think IS needs to see that people don't hate Israel or the Jews, but they do dislike injustice, especially when it's thrown in their faces. The fact that he see's nothing wrong with herding old women like cattle just shows he is inured to the sight.

I think that this is such an exaggerated statement of the truth. It sure shows well on video but it is geared for emotional response. Close-ups et. al. NO ONE is being ushered as CATTLE. Just an outright slanderous remark.

I appreciate those who read this report and watched the video. I deeply appreciate Michael Gillespie for drawing my attention to this incident and for his generous permission to reprint his words. Thank you to all who commented.

Injustice engenders violence. There is plenty of violence in the Middle East and by no means is it only Israeli. However, I address the violence that I unwillingly participate in, via my tax dollar funding. The video speaks for itself.

Like I said, you don't see anything wrong with it, while I do. I don't like the sight of old women being made to stand and wait around on the road in the heat for no good reason. You can say the reason is security, I say it's BS. Security is better achieved through a lasting peace that expresses mutual respect than through check-posts and barriers; ask me, there was a suicide attack behind my house two days ago, and the building was surrounded by barriers. The lack of terrorism now is less due to the wall than it is with the political division of the palestinian people, their weariness from constant bombardment and war and their focus on the evolution in governance and economic systems as a base for the future palestinian state.

Sorry you feel that way. Take a warm glass of milk and soothe yourself. How do you know their weariness. Maybe it is more a projection of your own tiredness you put on to others. That is another form of Racism.

Sarcasm will not promote the peace you say you seek, IS. I would like to stay open to listening to your point of view. Accusations and personal attacks will not promote dialogue. I know this is a tough subject and emotions run high, so it is hard. We all have to work at it.

BorderExplorer you are correct. I will no longer again argue with folks that are no longer interested in the painful truth. I am not here to change minds as to present facts from emotion. If you or anyone else wants to continue to make wild ridiculous accusations then there is nothing to talk about. Thanks, Steve
