Obama Embarks on Critical Meeting in Regards to Afghanistan

As the war ravaged country of Afghanistan has had its fair share of blood painted upon its soil; it looks like a new coat may be coming in the near future. As the war drags on in Afghanistan, numerous sources believe that it may have reached a pivotal tipping point. This has been signaled by a scheduled meeting of President Obama along with the United States top congressional leaders.

The reason this meeting is of the utmost importance for Obama and the American government is rooted in the fact that several of the military's top leaders are asking the president to send an additional 40,000 troops to be deployed in hopes of securing and reducing the tension in Afghanistan. It seems as if this operational strategy is inevitable, but may be postponed due in large part to insufficient financial funds available.

Many people including myself are wondering why we are possibly sending more soldiers into a certain death trap, when in fact President Obama's military plan upon receiving his seat in the Oval Office was directed at a counterinsurgency mission to defeat terrorists within the walls of Afghanistan. Is this large deployment of troops really necessary?

It seems as if the plan or strategy for defeating the Taliban and terrorist organizations in Afghanistan is clearly off base and extremely uncalculated. President Obama, military officials and other government officials need to take a long hard look at the potential options other than an increase in troops. Remember these men and women are laying their lives on the line to keep the United States safe, not to simply cover our governments asses! Bring our troops home safe and abandon this worthless expedition in Afghanistan.
