There are Hindi songs that promise to bring the Moon down to the Earth to fulfill the wishes of the loved one – ‘kaho toh chand taare tod laun?’ It might soon be a reality – no, no one is offering Moonstones or Moonrocks to his loved ones. It is a replica of the Moon that is being built in the ISRO – in anticipation of the Chandrayaan-II mission which is planned for launch in 2013. This mission would have two robots that would be programmed to map the surface of the Moon apart from digging down into the crust to locate underground sources of the life-giving and life-sustaining all important water. The model is expected to be ready by next October and would be built at a cost of around 15 crores of rupees.
