The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided that Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will host the Olympics in 2016. The voting was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Brazil is elated about this decision. The Olympics will be conducted in a tropical South American country for the first time in its history. Brazil defeated Chicago, Madrid, Tokyo among others early in the ballot.

Chicago is immensely disappointed at this turnout. US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spent a huge amount of money for their Copenhagen trip using taxpayer’s money to convince the IOC that Chicago be made host. A notion was made to make Chicago the 2016 Summer Olympics host instead. Chicago declined. The time was right for this American city to be host.

Meanwhile, London entertains the world in the 2012 Olympics. Everybody will be excited to visit this beautiful city.

Good for Rio. This will give a big incentive to clean up and improve the city; it is also a beautiful place and it should be exciting to see what the Brazilians do there; I think this is the first Olympics in South America too.
