Promptly after returning home to Washington D.C. from Copenhagen, where the president’s presence proved unsuccessful in bolstering the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid, President Obama delivered a jaw dropping defense of the administration’s job creation efforts.
Since signing the pork-laden stimulus bill back in January the unemployment rate has surged to 9.8% despite the fact that the administration assured everyone that if the bill was passed, unemployment would go no higher than 8%. The president actually seemed to take comfort that the latest figure of an additional 550,000 monthly job losses was better than the 700,000 figure back in January.
The president went on to say that we should expect hills and valleys in this recovery and that he and his advisors spend every day focused on creating jobs for Americans. Well, that’s not what he was saying in January when he urged Congress to push through a 787 billion dollar stimulus bill which they didn’t even bother to read. There was no mention of hills and valleys at that time, only assurances that the bill would stem the tide of unemployment.
The basic fact is that President Obama has no idea how to create jobs or even an understanding of how jobs are created. The “so-called” stimulus legislation did absolutely nothing for small business owners, the traditional engine of job growth after a recession. To make matters worse, much of the legislation the president has pushed, like “Cap and Trade” and “Health Care Reform”, will actually levy additional costs and taxes on the already embattled small business owners forcing them to cut more jobs.
It’s time the president stop giving lip service to how hard he’s working to create jobs and figure out what his administration is going to do to give small business owners the government policies and incentives they need to create more jobs for Americans,
