Windy City wants Summer Olympics

As I had predicted in previous articles, Rio de Janeiro won the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The IOC announced the bid five minutes ago in Copenhagen, Denmark. This will mark the first time that the Summer Olympics will be hosted in South America. However, there were a couple of shockers during the voting process. Tokyo ended up being third behind Madrid even though the 2012 Olympics will be in Europe, held in London, England. The ultimate shocker was that Chicago, Illinois of the USA ended up last out of the four cities. Many had believed that the arrival of President Barack Obama would have swayed the IOC vote. However, the Asian voters of the IOC froze out Chicago and supported Tokyo. Also, the USOC is in apparent disarray. There have been five different CEO's in the past six years. In retrospect, Pres. Obama should not have went to Copenhagen.

Wow with all the lobbying Obama and his wife did. I was wondering early this morning how this would play out. How would the IOC take this celebrity show.... and is it fair to other countries that don't have a charismatic president

Well, I'm sorry for Chicago, but the US had the olympics a few years ago. I think I heard that Rio has never had the chance.

It wouldn't have mattered. Nobody trumps Pele. Now I get to watch the media rip the President a new one for even going to Copenhagen for the rest of this week and next week as well.

It's unfortunate for the Obama camp. They really tried to make it happen, but congrats to Brazil and South America. They can really use the increase in tourism and the resulting economic boost. Plus, Brazil is no low profile country when it comes to sports. It's home to some of the most remarkable athletes in the world. Their national football team is the most successful team in the history of the World Cup, so it's a very appropriate destination for the Olympics and a celebration of athletics.

It's an epic fail for America and I would like to brand it as "Olympic Fail". I am posting an image to go with what I just said!

Amra did hit the nail on the head with her apt comments. And as I said elsewhere yesterday, Obama with his 'style over substance' way of running the show might put US into more and more dicey situations - if he doesn't realise what he needs to be focusing on really!

Limbaugh feels "the ego has landed". If it really has, good for America! Else, the great nation would need to brace itself for more 'fails'!

ahol888 ends his report with the words, "In retrospect, Pres. Obama should not have went to Copenhagen." True from a common man's perspective but the American President must have had the foresight not to rush in where angels fear to tread.

South America deserves a chance and Rio will be a great city to act as host.
