Healthy Lung

We the chihene NDE Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache are protesting the application of the Exploratory Mining Permit on our sacred land. The health risks to our people and to the enviorment are enormous. The health risks: One exposure can cause a reaction in the lungs. Prolonged exposure can cause Beryllosis.

"With single or prolonged exposure by inhalation, the lungs become hypersensitive to beryllium causing the development of small inflammatory nodules, called granulomas.

Granulomas are seen in other chronic diseases, such as tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, and it can occasionally be hard to distinguish berylliosis from these disorders.

Ultimately, this process leads to restrictive lung disease, a decreased diffusion capacity.

Clinically patients experience cough and shortness of breath. Other symptoms include chest pain, joint aches, weight loss and fever.

Rarely, one can get granulomas in other organs including the liver.

The onset of symptoms can range from weeks up to tens of years from the initial exposure. In some individuals a single exposure can cause berylliosis."

The Alamosa Springs Cienega is the only remaining example of an arid-land spring cienega intact and in good condition in SW N.M., with potential risk of cross contamination of aquifers, possibly altering delivery of ground water to the springs, and the environment. This area is listed on the State Register of Cultural Properties (SR#512). The Sullivan Ranch is located in Socorro County New Mexico.Beryllium is an ore used in weapons of mass destruction, reactors, aircraft and space vehicle structures, mirrors and more. If Beryllium is found ... all out mining will be next.

The Mining and Minerals Division in NM has found their application to be administratively complete.
