I have written several articles lately on the constant free fall of President Barack Obama's popularity among the American public. However, the high expectations that were placed on the first African-American president along with lofty goals set by Obama himself has done nothing but prove critics right, that Obama is no better than any other presidents of the past. President Obama has written numerous checks to the American people that he simply can't cash. He promised health care reform for the masses, he promised a removal of American soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq as well as numerous other pressing issues in America.
There was an obvious attraction for the American people to Mr. Obama as he is now in charge of one of the greatest nations in the world. President Obama is a smooth talker, he was and is a polar opposite to former President George Bush, he appeals to the younger generations as well as the minorities. When President Obama was running for election he had blacks, whites, Mexicans and Asians all in the palm of his hand, however now that palm is becoming sweatier and sweatier.
Its important to note that at this point in Barack Obama's short stint in Presidency, he is drastically less popular that former President's Bush and Carter. With these ideas in mind it begs the question on whether or not race has anything to do with the diminishing popularity of Obama? I raise this question because the racial card for President Obama has been played a lot lately in the media and news outlets around the world. However, these comments and remarks towards Obama being African-American have absolutely no effect on his ruling of America.
Obama is failing in office because he seems outmatched and overwhelmed by his responsibilities and goals he set once in the Oval Office not because he is black and not white. President Obama needed a way to rally the people of America around him during the election campaign. By being extremely and sometimes over passionate about the biggest and most important issues in America today, Obama gained the support of all the people, whether black or white or purple. Now that Obama is being asked to cash in or deliver on these promises, the people of America are seeing that he is no different than George Bush, Jimmy Carter or other former Presidents because he too made false promises to the people of the United States.
There is still time for Obama to turn his popularity and this country around, but if he doesn't act quickly he may not be in office long enough to make a difference. Its not hard to see that Obama's popularity among whites has taken the biggest hit, but now ecnomic analysts are seeing that African-Americans are beginning to sway their opinions as well, which in turn doesn't bold well for Mr. Obama. Lets remember popularity in most cases isn't everything, but unfortunately when you are the President of the United States it is!
