LORAIN, Ohio - A high school student is abducted and sexually assaulted while walking home from school.
The 15 year old student at Clearview High School told law enforcement and school administrators that it happened Monday, September 21st.
It was about 2:40 p.m. in the afternoon. The girl was walking North on Broadway at West 36th street. She says a man in his 20's abducted her and then drove her through town and stopped at Black River Landing where he sexually assaulted her. She says he then dropped her off a few blocks away at the City View Center. Word of the assault spread quickly. 17 year old Erika Christen says, "It's horrible! I think it's scary because a lot of girls walk home from school and some come outside during classes and stuff."
Lorain Schools Superintendent Rick Buckosh sent a letter home to parents warning them about the assault and advising students to travel in groups when possible.
Local business owners are also keeping an eye out for the perpetrator. Tom Spencer owns an auto shop at the corner of Broadway and W. 36th. He says, "I'm shocked! I didn't think I would see that here."
Kelly Nemeth works across the street. She was also surprised because that time of day so many children are walking home from school. She says, "It's scary, because kids walk home everyday . Its not safe anywhere now".
The male suspect was driving a dark blue four door, small, older model car with a gray interior. Witnesses say it was very loud and appeared to not have a muffler.
The Lorain County Sheriff's Department is investigating, but so far there have been no arrests.
