A truly amazing experience was our recent camping trip to the Golan Heights in the north of Israel. While the rest of the country is wilted by the summer drought, the Golan's rivers flow lushly all year around. There are beautiful national parks to visit with waterfalls, shallow streams and wading pools. The water is so clear that shoals of fish can be seen from great heights.
Apart from gorgeous nature, the Golan is also rich in antiquity. Old ruins and fortresses, Nimrod fortress for example, can be visited which are so well preserved and reconstructed that visitors really get a great feel of what things were like in days gone by.
A visit to the Golan heights is a great outting for the family and even our dog had a great time.
