Fisker Automotives Inc. received $529 million dollars to help build a hybrids sports car. Fisker is a startup company backed by Al Gore. Fisker’s car, the Karma, is built in Finland and will cost about $89,000.
$529 million is being sent overseas to create jobs in a foreign nation to make cars that the average consumer cannot afford. It is a minor problem compared to those three issues but the name “Karma” is rather strange as well, being from the Hindu religion. Those who support the creation of the car will invariably say that the creation of a hybrid will help the environment and bring about good karma. That may be true but it still seems rather odd to bring in religion as that. It would be like calling “carbon credits” an “indulgence.”
A loan of $465 million was given to the company Tesla Motors who are selling a $109,000 electric car. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently put out a study that stated that the electric car would not cut emissions unless nuclear power or a less polluting source of energy was utilized.
Driving a fuel efficient car and doing other environmentally-conscious activities is known as going “green.” However, given the billions of dollars General Electric will earn from cap-and-trade, George Soros earning billions from drilling for oil off the coast of Brazil, and this company getting over a half a billion; it must be wondered if by “green” they mean the environment or the color of money.
