Governor Deval Patrick

In Massachusetts the Constitution does not matter.

In Massachusetts laws can change to accommodate the Democratic Party's desires, and then change back when they no longer fit.

In Massachusetts you might as well call the legislature "the Government Mafia of Mass" – one which adds and deletes laws as they see fit. No reason to worry about looking like a bunch of losers who change laws to keep the state tied to the liberal band wagon.... Massachusetts is liberal and their law is the law of the land... in Massachusetts.

Today, another partisan Massachusetts judge empowered with the responsibility to uphold the Constitution of the State of Massachusetts (written in part by John Adams and until today, the Constitution that remained the oldest Constitution in the world) tossed aside law for sake of the need to give President Obama a filibuster proof Senate.

My critics will say that I am just being tough on Obama. My critics will say that Massachusetts is "doing it for the greater good." But I refuse to back down to what is a blatant misuse of power and a hypocritical move by Deval Patrick who admits to being encouraged by the Big "O" to change the law and appoint a new Democrat to the open Massachusetts seat.

The problem lies in the history of the law...

In 2004 Massachusetts highly anticipated losing a Senate seat with the election of John Kerry to the Presidency of the United States. The People's Republic of Massachusetts came up with a plan to bar then Republican governor Mitt Romney from appointing a replacement for Kerry's seat. Republicans in the legislature at the time argued feverishly to add an amendment to the bill that would allow the Governor to appoint an interim replacement until a special election could be held for a replacement elected by the people.

The amendment was shot down by the vast Democratic legislative majority. NO! There was no allotment for the Governor and Senator Kerry's seat would remain VACATE until the special election. No further discussion was ever raised by the Governor, or the Legislature.

Ironically, the strength behind the 2004 bully move was Ted Kennedy.

Flash forward, Kennedy dies, and Governor Patrick has no authority to appoint a Senatorial replacement. That is, until the Big "O" wants his 60 seats and pushes back on one of his back pocket liberal States. Governor Patrick tells the AP that President Obama personally discussed the need to change the State's Senate succession law along with much added push from White House aids to assist in replacing the late Kennedy's seat with a proponent of the administration's health care push.

The Republicans in Massachusetts are right to be angry. Republicans in this entire Country have a right to be angry. If Democrats are not angry, well that's just wrong. Over-riding laws for political gain is wrong. Reversing laws that you changed for political purposes in the first place because doing so allows for added personal political gain is hypocritical.

Reforming health care in this Country is going to extremes. Bending truths, bending laws and breaking people. The Democratic Party is out of line, out of control and they have reached a new low in proving that they care less about our Constitution and more about their own agendas and Massachusetts personified this with their actions this week. They have no argument anymore - they've proven they are definitely NO better than their rivals.

It is not only hypocritical – it's disgusting. Many of the State's elected officials are the very same people who raised hell of the law bending of the prior administration.

Just more of the same old, same old. No hope for change in this State.

I agree with you on Massachusetts, but the sad fact is that hypocrisdy is rampant on both sides these days. It's all about winning, no matter how you do it, and we are poorer for it.

Mike I could actually try to argue for the two or three politicians who deserve some respect, but I can't even see a reason to do that anymore. The problem IS actually a problem that carries across party lines and politiians are dirtier than any capitalist out there.

Massachusetts should never have changed the law to begin with and changing it back was only worse because it revealed the true reason it was done without adding ANY question as to why.

We have become so divided in this nation. I think there can always be hope but unfortunately sometimes hoping for change brings about a change that was not wanted or was not fair, or was not whatever.

I saw an interview with a young woman yesterday who said "Tell me why a person needs to make ove 500,000 a year?"

You see, I think there IS a place for people that make over 500,000 a year - she didn't. She would want everyone to make the same- a true communist adventure. I have a hard time understanding that mentality. But, it is because I have read many stories of HOW people acheived that goal and it wasnn't always luck, it often came at a costly goal, with many hours, and much hard work and often loss to acheive it as well.

Thankas for the comment and YES, firesisle, I look at Ted Kennedy as one of the government's LARGEST hypocrites.

You know I live in California and people joke all the time about how they wish we would just fall off into the ocean or become part of Mexico. Well that's how I feel about Massachusetts and I wish we could vote them out of the Union.

Massachusetts for a long time has existed on the fringe, dominated by radical liberals occupying both the spaces of extremists and corrupt officials. I can't understand how the people of Massachusetts let themselves get ravaged by their Government like this. Mitt Romney was the only good thing to happen to Massachusetts ever!

You are absolutely correct. Massachusetts has become the epitomy of what the original United States tried to avoid.

You're right about this. Party lines are much darker than they ever should be and this is proof.

Of course, Massachusetts politics will remain in the gutter. Once state politics go in the gutter, they remain there. I reside in Illinois so I empathize with you.

Move here and we'll raise a little raucous and then a whole bunch of people can write about how we are sooooo out of line to suggest that the legislature and governor in Massachusetts did anything wrong.
