Sarah Palin

Barack Obama would have probably been better off flying to Hong Kong and sitting in at the Investor's Conference given by Sarah Palin instead of enduring 2 days of admiration & adulation from some of his close friends like Qaddafi & Castro. He could have learned a few lessons in leadership & patriotism.

It is no mystery that the countries of the world and many of the 192 member countries of the UN have a soft spot for the Leader of the Free World. I mean of the Universe. And why not? Barack gives them what they want to hear. He plays on a lot of the Anti-Americanism rhetoric that is still wafting in those very same UN corridors . That "Hate George Bush" crowd can't seem to get enough of the Hate the US mantra. If hate the US is what they want, they have their man, Barack Obama.

The Anti-American jibe that Obama preaches is part and parcel with his desire to downgrade the US from a Global Power and reduce it to one of many. He is infatuated with idea of a Global Community. He goes to extremes to opologize for the United States but never praises its good works. What better audience to start with...

He appeases known terrorists like Mahmoud Ahmadijenad & Castro while bullying allies like Israel. He daydreams of his nuclear free world by surrendering our missile defence to Russia while leaving eastern Europe exposed to the threat of Nuclear inihalation by Iran.

It is a show of weakness and ignorance that plays perfectly well with the student body at the UN. As long as he continues to put on display his lack of demonstrated leadership, he will be assured of standing Ovations by the 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House.

Once thought of as almost impossble to have a worse President than Jimmy Carter on Foreign Policy, has now become more & more of a possibility as Obama seems intent on staking claim to that dubious title as well.

So, with a little better scheduling & foresight - Barack Obama may have done himself a world of good and actually had something smart & profound to say at the UN, if he had attended that Sarah Palin Gig in Hong Kong. After all, Michelle would have probably enjoyed a night of dancing & dining in Hong Kong and Barack could have taken back to the UN a few good lessons on Healthcare, Global Warming, The world economy and so on...

Topics of Interest

Healthcare:

Mr. President, common sense tells us that passing a trillion dollar new retirement program, is not the way to reduce health-care spending. Real health-care reform is market oriented, patient centered and result driven. It would give all individuals the same tax benefit, that an ideal plan that I would have in mind, same tax benefits as those who get coverage through their employers. And give Medicare recipients vouchers so that they can buy their own coverage. And reform tort laws and change regulations to allow people to buy insurance across state lines. Rather than another top down government plan, we should give Americans themselves control over their own health care with market friendly responsible ideas.

On Cap & Trade.

Listen Barack, American jobs in every industry will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under your cap-and-tax plan. The cost of farming will certainly increase or as you said in the Youtube video, Under Cap % Trade, electricity would necessarily skyrocket.

Your dumb Cap & trade Plan is going to drive up the cost of groceries and drive down farm incomes. The cost of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also rise. We are all going to feel the effects. The Americans hardest hit will be those who are already struggling to make ends meet today, much less with this new tax every month…

What exactly are you talking about here. What rhetoric did Obama use that you are calling Anti-American?

"As long as he continues to put on display his lack of demonstrated leadership, he will be assured of standing Ovations by the 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House."

I don't know if you heard the same speech I heard but through out the speech Obama talked about leading. What are you talking about when you are accusing him of having a "lack of demostrated leadership"?

It's hilarious that you call the UN a student body. It funny that you've bad mouthed everyone in your article except Palin. Including an insult of sorts aimed at the first lady.

How exactly is Obama appeasing Ahmedinejad? And Castro?

Your love letter to Sarah Palin is full of accusations, but not anything backing up the accusations.

Then you jump from Foreign Policy issues to domestic issues without properly connecting the two.

What does healthcare have to do with missile defense? What does cap and trade have to do with Israel? Your connection is lost.

A,

Where have been all summer?

The President has gone out his way to opolize for America on every single trip he has taken abroad this year. You can google the texts of his speeches and you will see what I am talking about.

Believe me, I heard the speech.
The insult at the first lady was to contrast the difference between someone that loves their country unconditionally and someone that only loves it when her husband gets the Democratic nomination for President of the US.

He is appeasing Castro by easing economic restrictions and lifting travel bans. He is appeasing Irans leader by bullying Israel and scrapping missile defence systems in Poland and Czecholosvakia.

The segway into the Foreign Policy & Healthcare Issue were things that Sarah Palin addressed at her conference in Hong Kong. These just happen to be the hottest two topics on the agenda these days.

...

so you are attacking obama at the UN by attacking what he said not at UN. Then you connect foreign policy topics that Obama spoke on with domestic topics Palin talked about.

What is this bullying of Israel you're talking about? DId Obama suggest a different sort of missile defense instead of the missile defense set up in Poland and Czech? Does the scraping of said missile defense hurt Israel, Poland, Czecholosvakia? And how in each circumstance?

The title of this article says that Palin has something that Obama can learn from. What exactly did Palin say on Foreign Policy that Obama should pay attention to, so that he may learn and talk about the next time he is addressing the UN?
Reply By amalgam80 amalgam80 | 2 months ago
Again with this apology thing, I am still waiting to see where Obama has apologized. And a change of policy is not an apology, its a change in policy.

What is her "tougher approach to dealing with dictators"?

"Bullying of Israel occurs when he gives the Palestinians a platform to denounce Israel and demnads that the construction of Jewish settlements be stopped or else. Israel is not the enemy here, it is Iran. He should be more forceful and direct instead of allowing Ahmadinejad to call the shots."

So have you seen what the public opinion in Israel is about the settlements? Do you know what the citizens of Israel think about the settlements? Let me tell you and then you can look it up. Most people in Israel are willing to support the halt in further settlements. They are willing to work toward a two state solution. Meaning they are willing to recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation. Israel isnot the enemy, you are right. Foreign policies are complex enough where you can support a nation (aid) and at the same time be against something they are doing (demolishing Palestinian neighborhoods to construct purely Jewish settlements).

What if Mexico started moving into Texas, bit by bit, demolishing AMerican neighborhoods and setting up new neighborhoods for just Mexicans. And at the sametime say that they are willing to work at giving the neighborhoods back through peace talks. It just doesn't make sense. Why are you still building new neighborhoods in Texas while talking about giving the neighborhoods back through peace talks. I'd think Mexico was lying.

Also, what does settlements on Palestinian land have to do with Iran? I just didn't catch the connection there? Need clarification. Also need clarification about Czech and Poland, when has Iran threathen them?

Iran does not have long range missles, they have short range missiles, so why should we build defense against the missiles Iran is not going to use?

From what I've read the newmissile defense plan is actually aimed at the type of missiles Iran has and the program will be online a lot faster than the one that has been scraped, and it is a program that actually works (practically, not just theoretically).

I would say scraping a stupid missile defense program for a more practical one does not show weakness. It shows common sense.

A,
She offers a tougher approach to dealing with dictators and countries who continue to hate America and are constantly trying to destroy what we stand for - Democracy, respect for woman's rights, Liberty & Freedom.

She feels that you cannot deal with these types of dictators by simply sitting across from each other and hoping that they like us afterwards. She thinks this is dangerous and bad judgement. And I happen to agree.

She praises the hard work and acknowledges our Military men & woman at every stop. She doesn't opologize for America which Obama does to a fault.Something that most agree shows weakness.

Bullying of Israel occurs when he gives the Palestinians a platform to denounce Israel and demnads that the construction of Jewish settlements be stopped or else. Israel is not the enemy here, it is Iran. He should be more forceful and direct instead of allowing Ahmadinejad to call the shots.

By eliminating plans for the missile defense system in Eastern Europe he is throwing Poland & the Czechs under the bus by exposing them to nuclear attacks from Iran. He is weakening our National Security and appeasing Russia all at once. Poland & for that matter, a lot of Eastern Europe, have been loyal allies of the US for a long time and to do this to them shows again, a weakness in negotiating with the enemy.

Russia has always voiced their concerns about this missile defense system and now it looks like they will get what they have always wanted.According to the Pentagon,an alternative sea based system would replace plans for the land based one.

S,

Obama keeps missing opportunities to remind his audiences of America’s generosity & greatness by emphasizing our shortcomings and failures instead. Instead of spending some of political capital to deliver a clear and direct message that promotes and defends American values, he always muddies the message by emphasizing occasions in which America had been “arrogant, dismissive, derisive, & complicit. No one wants to hear our President stand in front of any audience and continually single it's defects. It just makes him look weak.

Jerry,

Her first priority is to ensure that good solid Conservatives get elected in all 57 states in the upcoming 2010 Congressional Races.

She is more prepared than you may think. Heck, it wasn't too long ago Obama was Community Organizing and teaching classes for ACORN. So having Executive experience and actually running something may count for something if she decides to run.

Yup wasn't long ago that Obama graduated from Columbia University and then Havard Law School, "He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004", from wikipedia.

While Sarah Palin, "finished third in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant, receiving the "Miss Congeniality" award and a college scholarship. After attending five different colleges in a six year span of time, she received a B.S. in communications with an emphasis in journalism from the University of Idaho in May 1987." from wikipedia

While Michelle Obama, "graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School", " accepted a position with the law firm Sidley Austin, where she met her future husband. Subsequently, she worked as part of the staff of Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley, and for the University of Chicago Medical Center" from wikipedia.

Obama had a good week. He presented himself not only as the leader of the U.S., but as a leader on the world stage. There's no question at all that he belongs to be there.

I saw no weakness at all, and saw no indication that any of the world leaders perceived anything he said as as sign of weakness. There's a certain strength in someone that's trying to be just and fair, and most people can appeciate that. That isolationist, school-yard bully posturing from the last President doesn't earn respect in the long run. Everybody hates a bully and, since they have no true strength and character, they never last very long.

Thanks to Obama I see our allies taking a firmer stance to side with the U.S., other world super-powers, like Russia and China, becoming much more willing to work with us in our mutual self-interests- such as dealing with Iran and North Korea, and even most of our traditional enemies are softening their stance of viewing the U.S. as evil incarnate.

The biggest threat to the U.S. that I see are the Al-Qaeda and the internal threat of extreme right-wing radical nut-jobs that seem to have some unholy obsession with protecting and extending the power and wealth of the health insurance companies.

As far as Sarah Palin goes, I actually like her in the sense that she'd be a fun person to grab a couple of six-packs with, pack a .30-06, hop on snowmobiles and ride out in the wild country to hunt some elk or caribou. I don't, however, think she belongs on the world stage. She just isn't qualified.

Winds,

From what I saw, it looked like the French President Zarkozy was the one that brought down the gauntlet on the situation in Iran. He was the one leader that took the toughest stand by saying "enough with the talks, it's time for action". Zarkozy was the one that leading the fight to protect Israel not Obama. It is shameful that we have to look to the French President to take a tough stand and come to the defense of Israel.
It is shameful that we have a President that failed to warn Israel that Iran had been hiding a big nuclear weapons development facility when he knew about it for months.

And so, when Iran finds out that we have this information, the Appeaser Obama, has to lean on Gordon Brown & Zarkozy to bail him out of the embarrassment by offering more vague rhetoric in response to the fact that Iran has this covert nuclear facility.

As this President is learning, it is going to take more than words and to get the Iranians (or the Palestinians, Russians, Venezuelans, China) to do what he wants them to do.

He stands ands watches as Iran calls for the destruction of Israel and laughs it off as "That Ahmadinejad is a joker".

So, to be honest, I don's what version of this summit you were watching, but the concensus seems to be that US came away looking weaker than when it came in.
Reply By winds7seas winds7seas | 2 months ago
Obama's been playing it smart. Iran's compliance with nuclear guidelines is really an issue for the U.N. When did it become the sole responsibility of the U.S. and only the U.S. to enforce the rules imposed by the U.N.? Now, thanks to Obama's efforts, France, Britain and Germany are taking a much firmer stance against Iran, and, for the first time, Russia and China are siding with us and against Iran. Iran's been willing up to now to buck half the world, but they know they can't buck the ENTIRE world. And, already, Iran has agreed to allow U.N. nuclear inspectors in. We'll see what happens Monday.

This is the way to deal with these pesky little nuisances that are always popping up- with the support of the entire world behind us. This is also the way to handle North Korea. Al-Qaeda poses a different situation since there's only a few hundred of them and they're nomadic and they don't even have their own country, but support and cooperation from the rest of the world would certainly help to limit the places they can hide and buy weapons and such.

Israel and Palestine both claim to want peace, but if they really are serious about it they're both going to have to make some concessions. Right now they're both insisting on ridiculous demands that make it appear that they don't even want peace. They act like an old married couple that are at their happiest when they're always bickering at each other.

red, I think you missed the point of my comments, Obama has an education that prepared him to be the President.

Sarah Palin has the education to manipulate the media, to look good on tv.

We'll just see how far she goes, but I'm willing to bet she is not going anywhere near the White House. Maybe a House in the Congress, but for sure not the WH.
