It is said that 1 in 8 construction workers are heavy drinkers, which definitely seemed to be true in the west side of Manhattan, 14 floors up of a school in the making. Whilst working on hundreds of new classrooms the constructors are taking their lunch break in the form of beers, and then they would continue their job a hundred feet in the air.
The pub that the constructors visit is just a block away. Secret cameras have also shown that the workers had nothing at all to eat and a majority of them had consumed three (3) alcoholic beverages within 45 minutes before walking back to the construction site and continuing their work.
One of the constructors had consumed five (5) drinks within one hour before he walked back to work and continued working on the top floor, 100 feet up in the air. The same constructor also brought along an empty bottle of vitamin water and when it was time for him to go back to work he had filled up the empty bottle with alcohol and left for work. Whilst 100 feet up in the air, secret cameras also showed that he stopped on several times to have his drink.
Workers for “The Today Show” had also questioned him whilst walking back to work from the pub; they interrogated him asking him why he constantly did so and whether he knew how dangerous this was. The constructor had denied it on many occasions when camera’s and tapes had clearly shown otherwise.
In many states, this is considered against the law or a grey area within the law. Turner Construction is the company managing the John Jay School which was being built by these constructors; they had stated that they have started an investigation to it and that “Anyone intoxicated with alcohol will be removed from the job”
It has also been observed that ever since Turner Construction has started their investigation, the work on the John Jay School has been stopped.
