BENE BERAQ, Israel - An Orthodox Jewish youth performs the Kaparot ritual before the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur. In the ritual's ancient form, an individual holds a chicken over their head and swings it in a circle three times. While swinging the chicken, a prayer is recited, seeking atonement.

The sins are then transferred to the chicken, which then gets slaughtered and donated to the poor.
