As nations and world leaders from all regions and corners of the world got together today in New York at the United Nations Assembly to discuss pressing issues such as nuclear nonproliferation, the pursuit of peace, the preservation of the planet and the global economic crisis; many feared controversy would arise when Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took the podium. However, most of the noise came when the Libyan President, Moammar Gadhafi delivered a lengthy onslaught of ramblings to all who were in attendance.

President Moammar Gadhafi's speech went all over the globe and world, but his specific intent was focused on tearing into the UN Security Council and United States. In Mr. Gadhafi's hour and half speech, he attacked the structure that is the UN Security Council because he believes that the set up is unfair to all nations with the exception of the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain. President Gadhafi reiterated that the point of the UN Security Council was to give all a voice and equal power within the structure when in fact that power belongs to the five most powerful nations in the world.

Gadhafi also was furious at the idea that most of the smaller nations don't even possess a permanent seat on the council. He was especially adamant that the African nations were under appreciated and represented on the council. Among other rambling in his speech, he made it clear that the council was formed to reduce if not eliminate war unless the majority voted on it. However, since the council was formed over 65 wars have broken out and nothing was done to stop them. Instead the UN Council applied what President Gadhafi described as "terror and sanctions."

It appeared that Mr. Gadhafi saved his best for last when he provided his conspiracy theories on the United States military in countries such as North Korea, Afghanistan and Iraq. He sternly criticized the American president and government for being heavily involved in the hanging of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. He also believed that if the Taliban wanted to form an "Islamic emirate" in which he compared to the Vatican, they should be allowed to without interference from the United States.

Despite Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi's blatant rambling and outrage with the United States and the UN Security Council, he made a few valid points. I believe that the UN Security Council should leave more room for other nations to have a voice in it and perhaps open up the assembly to smaller nations receiving a permanent seat. However, it is important to remember that the Libyan president is here at the assembly because he has a self interest. It will definitely be interesting to see what transpires moving forward, but one thing is for sure, it will be anything but uneventful in the near and far future of the world.
