On Monday night the eight celebrity guys took to the dance floor to vie for their chance to be crowned top dancer on season 9 of "Dancing with the Stars". Tonight it was the ladies turn to see if they could out dance the guys.
The first dancer to take the dance floor were Debbie Mazar and Maksim Chmerikovskiy who performed a Salsa. The judges agreed that the performance was full of energy and that Debbie had potential to be a good dancer. The judges gave her a score of 16 for her first performance.
The next couple to take the dance floor were Melissa Joan Hart and two time “Dancing with the Stars” champion Mark Ballas. The couple took on a elegant Viennese Waltz that Bruno called prim and proper but lacked magic. Carrie Ann said the dance had moments and elegance while head judge Len Goodman said that it was overall an ok dance. The dance earned the duo a score of 18.
Singer Mya and Dmitry Chaplin performed a Viennese Waltz that Carrie Ann said was the way to set the bar but Bruno and Len disagreed greatly on the performance with Bruno calling it artistry; while Len felt that even though it was the American smooth version of the dance, the dance was not a Viennese Waltz. Even with Len giving the couple a 5, the pair earned a score of 21 for their performance.
Kathy Ireland and Tony Dovolani performed a Salsa that was somewhat lacking in the judges eyes with Bruno saying they didn’t sell the Salsa. The couple earned a score of 16 for their dance.
Swimmer Natalie Coughlin and season 1 “Dancing with the Stars” champion Alec Mazo performed a Salsa that left Len a little bewildered. Len lamented that with the hot and sexy Salsa and all the beautiful women and they weren’t knocking his socks off. Carrie told Len he was getting old and told Natalie that she was a diamond in the rough. Bruno called Natalie the million dollar mermaid. The couple earned the score of 19 for the dance.
Singer Macy Gray and Jonathan Roberts performed a Viennese Waltz that Carrie said was fascinating to watch. Len said that if he were at home, he would vote for Macy and Bruno called the dance endearing and said it was like watching a child enter the world for the first time. The couple received a score of 15 for their dance.
Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough performed a Salsa had the judges praising Derek’s choreography and the performance. Len called it a hot smoking Salsa and Bruno said it was what a Salsa should be. The dance earned the couple a 24 for the best score of the night.
The last couple to take the dance floor was reality star and rocker chick tomboy Kelly Osbourne and Emmy nominated choreographer Louis Van Amstel who performed a Viennese Waltz that had the dancer and her family in tears. In her video Kelly called herself a tomboy. As the couple took their places for the judges comments, host Tom Bergeron told Kelly that there was no trace of the tomboy. Bruno said, “I cannot believe my eyes,” noting that the dance had grace and elegance. Carrie Ann called it beautiful adding that Mom (Sharon) and Dad (Ozzy) should be proud. Len called it the best Viennese Waltz of the night. Kelly and Louis received the score of 23 to put them in second place.
Like the guys, the girls performed a dance relay with Natalie, Kathy, Debbie, and Joanna performing a Foxtrot. Points ranging from four to 10 were awarded and added to the scores for the first dance.
