John Travolta and his wife KellyPreston have lived a very low profile life, since the loss of their son, Jett, to a seizure on January 2nd at their vacation home on Grand Bahama Island.
The extortion trial of a paramedic and former politician has brought Mr. Travolta back to face the painful memory.
Sixteen year old Jett Travolta, who had experienced seizures in the past, was found on the bathroom floor during the family’s holiday vacation. Reportedly the teenager had hit his head as a result of the episode. Efforts were made by John to revive his son, but it was too late. It was a shocking event that devastated the close knit family.
Since Travolta was the one to call authorities and file charges against the two for trying to blackmail him for 25 million dollars with a document supposedly showing some kind of wrong doing—he must be available to testify at the trial.
It was never confirmed if the John and Kelly’s belief in Scientology had anything to do with the attempted extortion.
A fourteen member jury was sworn in on Monday, by Supreme Court Judge, Anita Allen. The trial got underway on Tuesday, September 22, 2009.
The two accused defendants, paramedic Tarino Lightbourn and former Senator Pleasant Bridgewater pleaded not guilty and have been free on bail. Lightbourn is represented by attorney, Mary Bain, who says she intends to call John Travolta as a witness, if the defense doesn’t.
According to a CNN source, the actor who was catapulted to fame for his performance in Saturday Night Fever in 1977, would be staying at an exclusive gated community west of Nassau.
Jett’s name was chosen in homage to Travolta’s love of flying jets, which includes commercial airliners. The couple also has an eight year old daughter, named Ella.
No indication was made regarding how long the trial might last or whether John Travolta’s family might join him at any time during his ordeal.
