SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said on his Web site Tuesday that the NCAA is tossing out Arco Arena as a place to hold its regional tournaments because of its poor condition.
"For the first time in 15 years, the NCAA is refusing to bring its regional basketball March Madness to Sacramento, thanks to the shabby condition of Arco Arena," Johnson wrote on his Web site.

"I've been watching the developments at Cal Expo regarding a potential new arena for the Kings. I know lots of hard work has gone into those discussions," Johnson said. "Clearly, the time for discussion at Cal Expo is running out."
Johnson said he's worried that if an arena plan isn't put into place soon, the Kings may no longer stick around in Sacramento.
"If we don't have a clear path to an arena in the not-too distant future, we as Sacramentans need to know that they [Kings] may very well look elsewhere," Johnson said. "I do not want that to happen."
Voters shot down Measures Q and R in 2006, which would have raised sales tax to help build a new Sacramento Kings arena downtown.
"We as a city have said, taxpayers don't want to pay for it, which I'm good on that," Johnson said. "So it is about economics at some point."
