Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) will launch a marketing campaign in the U.S. next week, which will then extend globally through 2010, as the Internet company looks to build buzz for its battered brand.
The move comes months after Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) launched its own $100 million marketing campaign for its Bing search engine, which it launched earlier this summer to challenge Google Inc. (GOOG). Yahoo and Microsoft entered into a 10-year search partnership agreement in July, in a game-changing deal as the players look to take on market leader Google.
On Tuesday, Yahoo named the focus on the marketing campaign - "Y!ou." Buzz has been building around the new campaign since Chief Executive Carol Bartz disclosed it to investors this summer. Bartz has been leading the company through a turnaround effort since January.
Yahoo said it would launch its brand campaign in the U.S. Monday, expanding to the U.K. and India a week later. It will also reach other markets including Brazil, Canada, France and Hong Kong.
