Time For A Refresher Course On Selective Memory

No War

Selective memory is a malady that has taken a strong hold of many of us during these past two weeks. It has not reached a pandemic level yet, but it is definitely spreading quickly. No one knows for sure what has set-off this recent wave of Liberal-itis as it has been so aptly referred to by brilliant Allvoices contributor Write4Life, but I have a hunch that Healthcare Reform was at the root cause. A secondary strain of Joe Wilson Syndrome, now has many worried and concerned. To properly diagnose this malady,

I will start with the premise most liberals in this country are intellectually dishonest which is why they don't have the slightest qualms about grotesque double standards or hypocritical commentary. There are plenty of examples to be used, but in keeping with the theme of Presidential criticism and racism, I will focus on this for now.

Some of the evidence proffered for the claims from Jimmy Carter and the Left in general, that somehow any criticism of the First Black President is “Racist”, ranged from the comical to the deranged, and many of those comments were infused with an astonishing dose of historical illiteracy – which I have tried to correct with little success. The ironic thing I found is , given that many of those leveling the claims & charges - whether it was the run-of-the-mill angry left-wing contributors to this site or perhaps some one time contribution from some student from some secular university – prided themselves on their brilliance, in obvious contrast to the few Conservative/Republican contributors on Allvoices.

Let’s begin with Joe Wilson’s now infamous “You Lie” comment which sent shockwaves throughout the halls of Congress and the ears of Jimmy Carter. All the commotion should have been about proper decorum and the timing of the comment. That the comment was factually correct is not in question. Somehow race became the focal point of the debate and any further scrutiny of Obama’s lies went by the wayside. The point that was not made enough was that Joe Wilson’s comments were factual, not only on the issue of Healthcare access to illegal immigrants, but factual on many other fronts.

For starters, Obama has already broken more promises in 9 months than Bush did in two terms. This is fact. This is not rhetoric or hearsay. Fact.He promised no tax increases for people making under $250,000, yet he's working on multiple bills, including health care and cap and trade, that would raise taxes even on the poor.

He promised transparency. He promised to hold all bills that came to his desk for 5 days before they are signed so the public could comment. It hasn't happened once yet. And if it has, can someone please correct me. And of course his big promise to "negotiate health care reform in public sessions televised on C-SPAN was a fairy tale. How's that pie-in-the-sky promise working out?

On the issue of Foreign Policy and serving their country, I remember a lot of chatter from the left questioning George W. Bush’s credentials to be Commander-in-Chief. The line of criticism was always, “ How could someone that never served in combat, lead our troops in two wars? Yet, despite the fact that Barack Obama never served at all, he is continuing to fight the same two wars that Bush did in Iraq and Afghanistan. He will need an additional 30-40 thousand troops in Afghanistan. He has allowed our troops there to engage in combat under more difficult rules of engagement that will make it much tougher on those soldiers. So I guess the logic here is that it's easier for a chickenhawk like Obama to handcuff our troops going into battle than a chickenhawk like George Dubya, who at least had some experience flying planes for the National Guard. Where is COde Pink and their all out War Protests?

Need we hear anymore from Barack Obama about the mess he inherited? How many times have we heard this lame excuse.I will admit that the one thing that annoyed Conservatives and Republicans more than anything else about Bush was his spending. He deserved a lot of the criticism for straying away from fiscal discipline and increasing the national debt. Democrats and the media jumped all over Bush for ballooning the deficit and the Billions being spent. In every sense of the word, the attacks on Bush from Liberals were hypocritical, given the fact that they always seemed to be complaining about the government not spending enough. The one time, a Republican President overspends, he is villified.

It is now Barack Obama that is spending us into bankruptcy:

He is already the biggest spender we've ever had in the White House. FDR for the longest time laid claim to that title but Barack Obama can now proudly lay claim to it. On the other hand, at a time when many of us have had to cut back, Obama saw it fit to support Bush's 700 billion dollar plus TARP bill. He followed that up by funneling hundreds of billions of dollars to his cronies in the banking industry. He paid back billions more of your money helping his union pals at Chrysler & GM stave off extinction. He rammed through a Stimulus bill with a price tag of over 1 trillion dollars and has selectively released funds to States and backers of his campaign. If that wasn’t enough debt already, Obama wants to take over the health care system. He wants to spend billions on Cap and Trade, and has not scrapped the idea for a 2nd Stimulus Bill.

Lastly, I want to clear up this notion that Barack Obama is so much smarter than Bush. All throughout his Presidency, Bush was labeled “Stupid” If he as much mangled one word, it was because he was stupid. Any tiny mistake he made was stupid. The Elite media decided that because George Bush was from Texas & Republican, they were going to take it upon themselves to pounce on his every misspoken word or error and paint him as a dummy. Most of us agree, that the gift of gab was not his forte or the most eloquent of speakers – but neither is Barack Obama once he gets off his teleprompter.

It is so ironic at how quickly the Elite media and Liberals like to point out that Barack Obama attended Columbia University & has a Law Degree from Harvard. Well, so did George Bush. Yet, the media has decided that Barack Obama is smarter because he is a Liberal. It does not matter how many gaffes & flubs he may make it's ignored because it doesn't fit the template that the media created based on his ideology.

So of course when Barack Obama makes claims that there were 57 states, thanks himself in a speech after his teleprompter let him down or tries to walk through a glass window to get in the White House, it’s ok.

That is called selective memory.

Selective memory or the denial of the most basic law of philosophy: the law of logical noncontradiction. Really, I refer to a lot of Liberals as "Hobbesians" after philosopher Thomas Hobbes. Hobbes wrote that "tyranny is merely monarchy that you don't approve of" The fact is that many liberals don't have a problem with these policies, they have a problem with those that instigate them.

Well, if he was a 7th grader, I'd definitely have to call him stupid; since he's the President, I'd prefer to call him morally bankrupt and intellectually challenged; if I called him "stupid", I'd only be labeled as a racist.

Thanks... *lol* I'm afraid if you mention Mensa to Obama, he'll go looking for maxipads... he's noting but a talking head for the Democratic party. He offers no originality, no innovation, just more and more of the same buzz words, and whining about how Republicans are blocking everything when they don't have a majority anywhere.

Actually, he did on thing that's original; he spends even less time in the office than Clinton did. Of course, he smokes cigarettes, not cigars, so maybe there's less appeal to the interns...
