Saddam and Rumfeld, behind teh allvoices logo it says, "in Baghdad December ...

Most people believe that Joe Wilson is some obscure Representative from South Carolina, that before his outburst against the President he was an unknown on the national level. That is not true.

If you Flashback to December 2003, Essie Mae Washington-Williams came forward with a bombshell of a revelation that she was the illegitimate daughter of then recently deceased South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond. Essie Mae Washington-Williams is an African American.

Strom Thurmond was one of the many Democrats that switched party affiliation to the Republicans, after the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Strom with many other Congressmen from the south were vehemently opposed to the rights being recognized by the civil rights act.

Rep. Wilson, a former page of Thurmond's, immediately told The State newspaper that he didn't believe Williams was a real daughter of Thurmond’s. He called the revelation "unseemly." And he added that even if she was telling the truth, she should have kept the inconvenient facts to herself:

"It's a smear on the image that [Thurmond] has as a person of high integrity who has been so loyal to the people of South Carolina," Wilson said.

In essence saying that if Williams was the real daughter of Thurmond, she is ruining his reputation.

Of course, Williams' story was entirely true -- and never really in doubt. Thurmond was 22 and Williams' mother, a black maid working in his family home, was 16 when Williams was born in 1925. Thurmond supported Williams financially for decades, says Talking Points Memo.

This is from the article in The State:

“Wilson said it is unfair to debate rumors about Thurmond when he can no longer defend himself.

“The same goes for discussion of an affair Thomas Jefferson is said to have had with a slave.

"Sometimes these things just go on," Wilson said. "These are heroes of mine. I really hope these would be heroes to future generations of Americans. (The stories) are ... a way to diminish their contributions to our country's existence."

In 2002, during a debate on C-Span with Democrat Bob Filner of California, Wilson had lost is cool again.

After Filner mentioned that Saddam Hussein was given chemical and biological weapons by the U.S. government during Reagan’s administration, Joe Wilson was outraged by such an accusation.

He attacked Filner of being un-American and essentially called him a liar.

It was not a lie, Saddam was sold weapons to fight Iran. Some of those weapons were chemical. The weapons Saddam used on his own people, the Kurds of Iraq, were weapons given to him by the U.S.

Filner was not lying, Filner just knew his history.

Joe Wilson is not just the guy the yelled, “You lie”. Joe Wilson is a person that has built his political career on calling people that are telling the truth, liars. Obama is just the latest.

Obama did not lie about illegals. Essie Mae Washington-Williams didn’t lie about her father being Strom Thurmond and Filner didn’t lie about Saddam Hussein being sold chemical weapons by the U.S.

Joe Wilson was just wrong about all three things.

Great report. Apparently, this guy needs to practice self control. He can't be making false accusations like that. And it's ridiculous when people start calling others "un-American". That's their way to escape an argument they know they've lost.
