A male Asian black bear has seriously injured 4 tourists at a Japan bus station. The attack took place in Takayama, Gifu prefecture, according to other eyewitnesses there was a group of 9 people mostly tourists attacked by the male bear. According to the Japenese news agency Kyodo, four men were seriously hurt with bite marks to the face. One eyewitness told Kyodo, that he tried to help one of the men but that the bear just kept on attacking the man and left it impossible for him to help.
Experts on Asian black bears told the news agency that it was very unusual for black bears to attack humans. So the question is why did this black bear attack this group of tourists? Was it a random attack or could this possibly happen again?
In this instance the 1.3m black bear ran from the bus station and into a souvenir shop after the attack. Staff from the souvenir shop bravely trapped it inside where it was later shot dead by the authorities.
