KABUL:The Afghan President is under fire from critics who allege massive rigging in the recent electionsHamid karzai denies major vote fraud. President Hamid Karzai called Afghanistan’s disputed election ‘true and fair’ and said he would not accept a second round of voting simply to satisfy critics claiming massive fraud, after European monitors said more than a quarter of the votes were suspect. We cannot claim a wrong and then commit another wrong in order to make a right,’ Karzai told CNN in an interview broadcast Thursday. He acknowledged irregularities and difficulties in the poll but said that overall the vote was honest.Karzai has 54.6 per cent of the vote in preliminary results, well ahead of his main challenger Abdullah Abdullah’s 27.7 per cent. However, a UN-backed complaints commission has ordered a re-count of about 10 per cent of polling stations. If enough of those votes are thrown out and Karzai drops below 50 per cent, it would force him into a two-man runoff with Abdullah, a former foreign minister. So i can assure u election were fair and true.European election monitors this week said about 1.5 million of 5.6 million votes counted from the Aug. 20 election should have been set aside pending an investigation into fraud. About 1.1 million of those were cast for Karzai.
