On Thursday September 18, 2009 the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) honoured outstanding members of the Latin community with the fourteenth annual ALMA Awards. ALMA is the Spanish word for spirit. The NCLR sees the ALMA Awards as, “a one-of-a-kind tribute to the spirit of pioneering Latinos in television, music, and sports. This is our annual opportunity to applaud their incredible, enriching contributions to American culture and celebrate our shared Latino heritage.” This year’s event was hosted by Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez.
