All The President's Czars Part 1: The List

With all the talk of "czars" going around I thought maybe I should list some of the czars. Now it is true that czars are not really Russian czars, but none the less it is a scary term to give to someone in a Democratic society.

Another thing to remember about the "czar" title, some are not approved by Congress, while many are. There is a widespread belief that all czars are not approved by Congress, it is wrong. Many have gotten approval.

Another rumor going around is that the czars have no oversight. The czars approved by Congress should not count in this concern and the ones that were appointed are held responsible by the White House. They are members of the White House, anything they say and do is part of the White House. The White House is responsible for their actions and responsibilities. Some one is keeping an eye on them. And if a "czar" misbehaves in any manner, it is the White House that is held responsible.

In an article for the Huffington Post, Jason Linkins wrote:

"Republican Senators are sending letters and GOP House members are holding up posters and attempting to pass thoroughly baffling bills to prevent the Obama White House from appointing advisers.

These elected officials seem to be unaware of some basic facts. Many of the people they insist need to be confirmed by the Senate already have been confirmed. Many of the people they consider to be holding unprecedented appointments are merely filling well-established positions. In some cases, these lawmakers seem to have forgotten that they themselves passed laws that mandated the appointments. And in a few cases, they just select some established functionary at random -- like a State Department envoy or the Deputy Secretary of the Interior -- and call that guy a "czar" just for fun!"

Anway, on with the list of advisors, better known as czars:

OOOPS, I'm so stupid, I put the list of Bush czars by mistake, at least I left out a few of them that shouldn't even be called czars, but were by the media at the time.

Sort of like the Science czar in question by the likes of Glenn Beck. The Science czar, John Holdren, is not an appointee by Obama, but was approved by the Senate.
